Nowhere is this more evident than in the field of communications. It is with this in mind that MILCOM 2002 is centered around the theme, "Global Information Grid – Enabling Transformation through 21st Century Communications." The development and implementation of the Global Information Grid (GIG) will be a critical challenge as our military advances ever faster and farther into the information age. The MILCOM 2002 conference scheduled for October 7 – 10, 2002 at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, will be a thought provoking event that addresses these challenges head on. MILCOM will offer some of the best and brightest minds presenting topics ranging from advanced commercial systems for military applications to information superiority. Classified sessions will further enable participants to explore the latest advances in technology and military planning. MILCOM 2002 is jointly sponsored by the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA). The Department of Defense sponsors the security for the classified portion of the conference. The Boeing Company is honored to be hosting this year’s conference. In
addition to the unclassified and classified technical
program, MILCOM 2002 will feature panel discussions between
leaders in government, industry and academia.
Distinguished speakers will present tutorials on
important technical, programmatic and policy topics.
More
than 50 industry exhibitors will be on hand to demonstrate
their latest technologies and systems. MILCOM 2002 is host to numerous social activities, providing many opportunities for interaction with other attendees and guests at the luncheons, receptions, golf outings and galas. Opportunities for spouse activities abound in beautiful Southern California. I hope that you will join me for what will be a first-rate technical conference and a great opportunity to meet with leaders in technology, government and industry. I look forward to seeing you at MILCOM 2002. Jim
