Software Communications Architecture (SCA) for the JTRS
Dr. Steve Bernier, Communications Research Center

Abstract

Since its creation by the JTRS, the Software Communication Architecture has come a long way. The SCA started as a US military architecture and has since become an international de-facto standard. Countries from around the world are using this architecture to develop SCA-based radios. More recently, the SCA has started to gain in popularity within the commercial community as well. This tutorial revisits the fundamental concepts behind the SCA. It explains how SDR platforms are implemented using the different types of SCA software components. This tutorial also offers an overview of how the domain profile is used to enhance portability through software deployment.
