1 November 2004 14:15-16:45 Software Defined Radio Dr. Vincent Kovarik Jr., Harris Corporation Abstract This tutorial will provide an in-depth look into the process of developing a radio system that implements the Software Communication Architecture (SCA) standard. The tutorial will focus on the dependencies between the various tasks and disciplines that must be brought together to successfully implement an SCA compliant system. Aspects of developing an SCA-compliant system to be covered include the essential concepts and components of the SCA, the impacts of the recently adopted Specialized Hardware Supplement addressing Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementations, the waveform assessment process, and the certification process for the SCA Operating Environment (OE) using the JTRS Test Application (JTAP) tool. Bio
Dr. Kovarik is heading up the SDR/SCA development effort at Harris Government Communications System Division (GCSD). His group has developed the Domain Management ToolKit (dmTK). The dmTK product is a commercial product implementation of the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Software Communication Architecture (SCA). In addition to his duties at Harris, he is an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Florida Institute of Technology and Rollins College. Dr. Kovarik holds a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering. |
