Exact analytic solutions are developed for the probability of bit error for a quadrature amplitude modulated signal when the signal is transmitted over a slow, flat Ricean fading channel. New analytic techniques are used for increased accuracy and, where applicable, are compared to the usual approximations.

Frank Kragh (pronouced Craig) is an assistant professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Current research areas of interest include military communications systems, communications theory, wireless technologies, SIGINT systems, cognitive systems, and MIMO communications systems. Dr. Kragh holds a BSEE from Caltech, a MSEE from University of Central Florida, and a PhD from the Naval Postgraduate School.
