In wireless multihop ad hoc networks, collision due to hidden terminal problem is common and makes it difficult to provide the required quality of service for multimedia services or support priority-based services. In this paper, we first analyze shortcomings of existing approaches to alleviate the hidden terminal problem. Then we propose a new scheme in which the receiver sends short busy advertisements over the same channel to clear the floor for receiving. It only requires a single transceiver and a single channel. We analyze and evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme extensively. The results show that the new scheme has a much higher efficiency than the existing approaches using a single channel and a single transceiver.
