Agent-Based Situational Reasoning for In-Theater Distribution

This paper and presentation will outline our work on using Intelligent Distributed Agent technology to develop situational representations of In-theater logistics for the purposes of planning and monitoring execution of material sourcing and distribution. Using Cougaar agents, we build a distributed situational model which is maintained in real time to provide the basis of reasoning and assessment. The situational model is broken into fours class types: supply, transportation, routing and management. Each unit participates in the situation as one or more types, collectively forming the In-theater logistics situational picture. Information sharing, tasking and situational reasoning allow the system to provide high degrees of automation and decision to the operators at each echelon. Situational understanding, plans and schedules are provided using a number of GIS, Gantt and report views collectively allowing the operator to interact with the situational picture. This work was done under sponsorship of the Army Logistics Tranformation Agency (LTA) under the Army G4 (Logistics).
