A novel group mobility model, called Multi-Group Coordination Mobility (MGCM) model, is proposed for performance evaluation of military ad hoc networks in this paper. In MGCM, motion of each node in a group is determined by the leader node of the group, its neighbors and random deviation velocity. Motion of the leader node of each group is determined by the leader node of reference group, other leader nodes and random deviation velocity. By proper choice of parameters, MGCM can be applied to various military applications. MGCM solves the problem of speed decay caused by most random mobility models. Density of the network can be adjusted by setting radius of area covered by a node. In MGCM, each node has different effect on the motion of other nodes in the same group. The motion of all groups is correlated by proper coordination strategies. The performance of MGCM is simulated.

I received the B.E. and M.E. degrees in Institute of Communication Engineering, People’s Liberation Army University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, P. R. China, in 2001 and 2004, respectively. I am studying for a doctoral degree Institute of Communication Engineering, People’s Liberation Army University of Science and Technology. My interests include protocol design, evaluation, and optimization for mobile ad hoc networks.
