It is well known that Reed-Solomon coding with errors-and-erasures (EE) decoding is an effective method for countering partial-band interference for slow-frequency-hop (SFH) spread-spectrum communications over AWGN channels. Moreover, in previous work we have shown that good SFH system performance can be obtained in an intersymbol interference channel by using a low-complexity packet-level iterative detection technique based on EE decoding. In this paper,we evaluate the performance a SFH system with the same packet-level iterative detection technique in partial-band interference. The performance of the system is compared with the performance of SFH using one-shot detection and EE decoding. It is shown that packet-level iterative detection results in a significant improvement in performance with only a modest increases in detection complexity. We also consider packet-level iterative detection in conjunction with a modified SFH system in which the contents of each dwell interval are differentially encoded. It is shown that the use of differential encoding results in improved performance in partial-band interference, and the complexity cost of the improved performance is modest. The performance of the system using both symbol-by-symbol erasures and threshold-based dwell erasures is compared with the performance if only symbol-by-symbol erasures are used.
