AEHF uplink acquisition involves a complex probe response protocol between the terminal and satellite. This report demonstrates the performance of AEHF uplink acquisition and tracking using various PSK and FSK modes with varying link margin. Total uplink acquisition time is used as a figure of merit and characterized for the various modes of operation. Features for robustness and protection against erroneous satellite measurements are also discussed. The results of this paper are useful in understanding not only the individual performance requirements levied on the satellite and terminal but also the system wide performance of satellite and terminal interacting in uplink acquisition and tracking.
