The USS Midway was commissioned on September 10, 1945. Over the next 47 years, more than 200,000 American veterans served aboard her during the Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War and a number of other conflicts. The USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum will serve as San Diego's tribute to the contributions of the armed services, and as a dynamic, interactive beacon of education and entertainment. On this special night, guests will have an amazing experience with a virtual reality flight simulator ride, actual and restored naval aircraft from World War II, audio tours, interactive and multimedia exhibits, a museum store, DJ entertainment and more.

In addition, MILCOM 2008 will proudly recognize this year's award recipients for outstanding achievement and technology advancement in the field of military communications.

Take a step back into San Diego's lively history for a look at the beginning of America's Finest City. Guests will see the first permanent settlement in California, now a beautiful collection of unique shops, heritage museums, and colorful restaurants. Guests will have free time to explore Old Town on their own where they will experience early Americana with its distinctive “West Coast Style” Spanish flavor. Guests will also enjoy a deliciously authentic luncheon at Casa Guadalajara, a true Mexican Fiesta.

Coronado began in 1886, the dream of Elisha Babcock, who vowed to create a resort that was to be the "finest watering spot on the Pacific Coast." Along with its fabled Hotel del Coronado, the town became one of the great playgrounds of the world, drawing Presidents and princes, moguls and movie stars to its shores. On a leisurely, guided stroll through quaint Coronado, guests see the stately mansion of John D. Spreckels, the cottage of the Duchess of Windsor, the home where the Wizard of Oz was inspired and tour the magnificent Hotel del Coronado. Guests enjoy the tales and tidbits of a hundred years of remarkable history.
