- Panel Discussion CP1 - Lasercom as an Enabling Technology for High Bandwidth Communications
10:00-12:00 Noon Room 4A (Building A33, Conference Center)
Abstract: This panel will provide a discussion of the latest applications, experiments, and technologies being developed in the area of Free Space Optical Laser Communications. The ever increasing need for high data rates, low probability of intercept, and the exhaustion of RF capacity are driving Lasercom to the forefront for military and commercial applications. Applications include space-space, space-air, air-air, air-ground, ground-ground, air-sea, air-underwater, ship-ship, and ship-shore. These applications span a wide range of environments, ranges, data rates, and transmission impairments. Panelists representing the Air Force, the Navy, the Army, and DARPA, as well as members of industry will discuss the latest developments in this important field as well as the challenges that remain for specific applications.
